Tokyo Tower Projection Mapping! TOKYO TOWER CITY LIGHT FANTASIA~summer landscape 2022~

2023.05.01

Hi!

Ryouken Kure here, the entertainment chief of GP, I’m the one once saying that the spicy food that I’m eating isn’t all that spicy to my friends, and later on when the spiciness kicked in, have a hard time admitting my mistake. (By the way, it took me about 20 minutes of trial and error to come up with this greeting lol)

Today, I would like to report on the projection mapping project at the Tokyo Tower that I visited the other day.

TOKYO TOWER CITY LIGHT FANTASIA

Projection mapping on the Tokyo Tower? Some of you may be wondering. In fact, I had never even heard of it until I stumbled upon it while searching for a topic for this article.

According to the information I found, “TOKYO TOWER CITY LIGHT FANTASIA” is a night view event planned, directed, and produced by Naked, which was restarted in 2014.

Since it is listed as “Restart ……”, it may have a surprisingly long history.

I’m from Osaka, so this is the first time for me to climb Tokyo Tower. I didn’t know about this project until recently. There are still so many interesting things happening around the world.

Anyway, “TOKYO TOWER CITY LIGHT FANTASIA” is a new night view experience that combines the night view from the observation deck and projection mapping, adding value and entertainment to the Tokyo Tower experience.

The theme of this year’s event: Summer landscape 2022

The theme of this year’s event is Summer Landscape, so visitors could enjoy the night view together with Japanese summer scenery projected by projection mapping, fireworks, the Milky Way, and sunflowers dyed by sunset!

Summer landscape 2022 highlights

Here are some of the highlights and key points of Summer Landscape from my point of view!

This is exactly where I can show my skills as the entertainment chief!

The background on which the mapping is projected is special!

The biggest difference between a general projection mapping and this Tokyo Tower Mapping is in the background. Usually, the mapping is projected on a plain white background. However, the background for this mapping is the top-level night view of Japan that can be seen from Tokyo Tower.

In order not to destroy the beautiful night view from Tokyo Tower, the images projected by the projector are lighter than usual, maintaining a perfect balance between the night view and the mapping.

A beautiful collaboration of layers of light!

So romantic, a perfect get away to make great summer memories

Climbing Tokyo Tower this time, I felt that there were many couples. This view is certainly perfect if you are looking for a romantic atmosphere.

As you probably know, the night view alone is more than enough to enjoy, but the mapping adds to the romance of the night view.

Isn’t it purely amazing to be able to see fireworks and the Milky Way from the spectacular view of Tokyo Tower?

I was firmly captivated when I saw the shooting stars reflected in the night view of Tokyo Tower.

Comments and Summary

I thought that the projection mapping was a bit too light when viewed as a stand-alone projection because the night view was the primary focus.

This is Tokyo Tower, a place where everyone can enjoy the mesmerizing night view.

The modesty of the stand-alone production also makes sense when you think about the balance they have to obtain between the mapping and night view.

Anyway, a view that is worth go out and see for yourself.

Please go visit the Tokyo Tower projection mapping next time you’re in Tokyo!
