“Discovering the Splendor of ICONSIAM: Bangkok’s Iconic Venue

2024.03.16

Hi, I am Ema, and this month I have traveled to Bangkok for a site inspection for an event happening in May at Icon Siam. After reading this journal, you will be eager to visit the venue!

Quick facts on Icon Siam

Icon Siam spans over 525,000 square meters of retail space, making it one of the largest shopping centers in Asia. It’s situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, offering spectacular views and an exceptional shopping experience.

The design of Icon Siam incorporates elements of Thai culture and heritage, blending traditional Thai architecture with cutting-edge design. Its façade is inspired by the flowing waters of the Chao Phraya River, reflecting Thailand’s historical relationship with its waterways.

Below is a picture of the ICONIC Multimedia Water Features show, open for viewing daily at 06:30 PM, 08:00 PM, and 09:00 PM. When I got to watch this show, they played Michael Jackson and BLACKPINK (for those who may not know, one of the BLACKPINK members, Lisa, is from Thailand, so there was a bit of BLACKPINK fever).

Also, to ensure easy access, Icon Siam is well-connected by public transport, including a direct link to the BTS Skytrain via the Gold Line. The mall also offers shuttle boat services, making it a convenient destination for both locals and tourists.

Icon Siam isn’t just a mall; it’s a cultural and entertainment hub that offers a glimpse into the future of retail and leisure, making it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Bangkok.

The way to the True Icon Hall 1&2

The second day of our stay in Bangkok was dedicated to a site inspection. Around 10 am, the area in front of the entrance was crowded with people waiting for it to open.

As we entered the mall, we first came across food markets. As we walked past the markets, we took an elevator all the way up to the 7th floor, where True Icon Hall 1 & 2 is located.

Below are the pictures of the foyer/Suralai Hall. The hall spans 1,071 square meters and is able to accommodate 1,200 people in theatre-style seating, 672 in classroom seating, and 700 in banquet seating. We have never seen a foyer larger than this one in any venues in Japan.

True Icon Hall 1&2

Below is a picture of TRUE ICON HALL 1 & 2. This hall spans a gross area of 12,000 square meters and comprises 2 main halls totaling 2,775 square meters and a 1,200-square meter foyer named Suralai Hall, which overlooks the Chao Phraya River. These innovative halls are fully equipped with ultra-high-speed internet and feature double operable walls for complete soundproofing when divided. Additionally, the venue includes 14 meeting rooms that can accommodate from 20 to 200 seats, with the flexibility to combine spaces for up to 520 people in theatre-style seating.

Thai Silk Shop in Icon Siam

During the event, we are incorporating performances involving Thai silk, so we checked out a Thai silk shop inside the mall.

Our wonderful Local Partner!

We met with our local partner who is collaborating on the event production for this event! They are based in Malaysia, and we managed to forge a closer relationship with them during the site inspection. This business trip was truly enjoyable, especially meeting with local partners and exchanging ideas on event trends and pop culture. This experience has inspired me to strive towards building strong relationships with local vendors worldwide and to manage international events with a team that passionately loves event planning.

Conclusion

We are thrilled about our return to Bangkok in May! Managing an event overseas for the first time presents a unique set of challenges alongside exciting opportunities. I am wholeheartedly embracing this experience, confident that it will endow me with invaluable skills essential for success in the field of international relations.
