TeamLab, a leading creative art company representing Japan, has made it to the top 5 in Google’s annual search rankings for 2023, bringing us wonderful news early in the new year.
While TeamLab Planets continues to gain popularity on a global scale, there’s also exciting news that in March, artworks featuring cherry blossoms in full bloom will be exhibited. In this article, we’ll introduce new artwork related to cherry blossoms along with the remarkable achievements of TeamLab.
What is teamLab Planets?
First, let me briefly introduce TeamLab Planets.
TeamLab Planets is an experiential museum with the concept of a “museum in water,” consisting of seven installations, including four massive art spaces, created by the art collective TeamLab.
Its defining feature is the overwhelmingly immersive art experience that allows visitors to physically enter the art. Comprising four vast art spaces known as the “Water Area” and two gardens known as the “Garden Area,” the museum offers a special ambiance akin to another planet, hence the name “Planets.”
Regardless of language, it captivates people from around the world of all ages and backgrounds with its immersive experience enjoyed through visual and sensory perception, along with its appeal for creating social media-worthy content.

As mentioned earlier, in the 2023 “Year in Search” rankings announced by Google, teamLab Planets ranked in the top 5 as the “Most Popular Art Museum/Museum in the World”!
It’s worth noting that this ranking is not from Google Japan, but it’s based on the most searched art museums and museums globally on Google Maps in 2023.
Among the prestigious art museums and museums with over 100 years of history, teamLab Planets from Japan was the only one to make it into the ranking, which is truly remarkable. Below are the ranking results:

Furthermore, in the “Inbound Popular Tourist Destination Ranking Nationwide Edition” announced on December 15, 2023, teamLab Planets also secured the top spot nationwide.
The ranking was selected by the largest inbound information media in Japan, called “Tabi Labo.” It was based on the aggregation of user reviews from Google Maps, totaling 4,700 tourist attractions across all 47 prefectures, assessed from Tabi Labo’s unique perspective. Here are the ranking results:

Starting from March, a new artwork featuring cherry blossoms in full bloom will be unveiled.
TeamLab Planets, which is already gaining momentum like a flying bird, will introduce two new artworks starting from March with a cherry blossom theme: “Floating in the Falling Universe of Flowers” and “Drawing on the Water Surface Created by the Dance of Koi and People – Infinity.” We’re looking forward to these new additions as well!
