“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”: Musical and Cafe Report

Last month, I watched the Harry Potter musical at Akasaka Theatre and also visited the Harry Potter café with my team. Both experiences were incredibly immersive and visually stunning. In this journal, I will discuss how the elements from both the musical and the café can be incorporated into business events. By drawing inspiration from these experiences, we can create more engaging and memorable events for our clients.

【Immersive】 Harry Potter Musical

During the musical there were many inspiring elements.

1. Props

I enjoyed the props used for the seats. They used suitcases as train seats, demonstrating how movable objects can be transformed to represent stationary ones. This approach can be adopted in business events by using versatile and imaginative props to create dynamic and interactive settings, fostering a more engaging environment.

2. Immersive Effects

The projection mapping near the walls was captivating. During the time-travel scenes, the screen and seats vibrated, providing an immersive experience for the audience. While it might be challenging to incorporate such effects in business events, similar immersive experiences can be delivered using advanced audio-visual technology, interactive displays, and sensory effects to create a memorable and engaging atmosphere.

3. The Magical Elements

Every time the scene changed, the cast would swing their capes to express a magical atmosphere. This technique ensured smooth transitions and added a spooky, enchanting mood. In business events, incorporating elements like dramatic lighting, sound effects, and choreographed movements can create a seamless flow and maintain the audience’s interest, adding an element of surprise and excitement.

By drawing inspiration from the Harry Potter musical, business events can be transformed into captivating and memorable experiences, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.

【Photogenic】 Collaboration Cafe

1. Interior Design Evoking Harry Potter Elements

The interior design of the collaboration café effectively evokes the enchanting world of Harry Potter. Scattered frames, strategically positioned ceiling lights, dark-colored drapes, a gigantic wand, and the impressive ceiling height collectively create an one and only atmosphere. Even without explicitly mentioning “Harry Potter,” the design immediately signals to participants that this is a Harry Potter-themed space.

2. Meals Related to Famous Scenes

One of the most iconic meals served at this café was the Harry Potter birthday cake. Additionally, the blue bubbly drink was a popular beverage. Collaboration cafés must ensure that their foods and beverages are photogenic to go viral on social media, enhancing the overall experience and drawing more visitors.

3. iPad Usage

Many modern cafés use iPads as alternatives to traditional menu booklets. This café also utilizes iPads for efficiency. In fact, some cafés use iPads to entertain customers while they wait in line. For instance, some anime collaboration cafés allow customers to read comics on iPads while they choose their orders during their wait, enhancing the customer experience.

4. Harry Potter Goods Store

Inside the café, there was a small goods store primarily selling kitchen appliances and daily goods. This store targets families and female customers, as these are the main demographics of café users. The availability of themed merchandise adds an extra layer of engagement, allowing visitors to take a piece of the magical experience home with them.

Conclusion

The Harry Potter musical and café create immersive and photogenic elements that captivate and engage the audience. At first glance, business events might seem unrelated to these immersive and photogenic elements. However, business events are becoming increasingly entertaining, especially the ones we produce at Global Produce. I hope to incorporate XR technologies and photogenic props into the events I produce, elevating them to a new level of engagement and experience.
