Planetarium × Immersive!? The Party “VEGA” Was Amazing

2024.12.20

Hello, everyone! This is Miyanaga from GP here. I’ve heard rumors that the Planetarium × Immersive Party “VEGA,” held on Friday, November 8th, was absolutely spectacular.

Popular DJs such as REMO-CON and DJ WILDPARTY gathered at the Konica Minolta Planetaria TOKYO in Yurakucho. The fusion of 360-degree full-dome visuals, 3D imagery, a UFO-shaped DJ booth, and dance music created the ultimate immersive space!

What is the Planetarium × Immersive Party “VEGA”?

VEGA, held on Friday, November 8th, combined the setting of a planetarium with dance music. As you can see from the visuals, it looked like a sci-fi movie—incredibly surreal!

The event was organized by Konica Minolta Planetaria TOKYO and the creative company “HERE.,” renowned for their VJ performances in dome spaces.

The direction and production were led by “Afromance,” a creator from Afro&Co., known for planning popular projects and events. With top DJs providing the beats, the energy of the guests was off the charts…! An extremely fun and special event: that’s exactly what VEGA was.

The venue: An entertainment planetarium

Konica Minolta, which is a group that operates various planetarium facilities, focused on adult-oriented programs at the Konica Minolta Planetaria TOKYO.

With programs like “Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon” and “Immersive Planetarium Gogh,” this venue was ideal for people seeking immersive cultural entertainment.

Globally, immersive music experiences in 360-degree spaces, like The Sphere in Las Vegas, are a hot trend. VEGA pursued the same immersive quality, creating an extraordinary space with sound, imagery, and galaxy visuals surrounding attendees. This type of experience is hard to achieve in places other than Planetaria TOKYO.

Delving into the many charms of this event

Now then, let’s take a closer look at the unique charms that were specific to this event.

The concept of the “first contact”

One of the notable concepts behind the event was the idea of the “first contact,” creating an encounter between aliens and humans. Participants were treated as Earth’s representatives, invited aboard a spaceship in order to journey through the galaxy.

UFO-shaped DJ booth making its debut in Tokyo!

The UFO-shaped DJ booth, featured at “Burning Japan’s SPACE DISCO,” made its first Tokyo appearance. DJs performed inside the UFO while VJs projected immersive 360-degree visuals onto the dome. The combination of music and visuals guaranteed liveliness and excitement.

Star performers, including REMO-CON and DJ WILDPARTY

VEGA featured a total of eight DJs and one MC performing across two areas: the main “Planetarium Floor” and the sub “Lounge Floor.” On the Planetarium Floor, REMO-CON, who celebrated his 30th anniversary this year, and DJ WILDPARTY, known as the ultra-borderless DJ “Wai-pa,” gave outstanding performances. Meanwhile, the Lounge Floor was energized by Village Ram, keeping the atmosphere lively and engaging.

360-degree 3D visuals that enveloped the entire dome

Next-generation lighting “Lanterna,” used for space VJ performances

The event featured “Lanterna,” a next-generation lighting system capable of freely switching four-panel visuals. Multiple units were used alongside other lighting and digital signage, offering an impressive VJ performance synchronized with DJ music.

Imagine enjoying cutting-edge VJ visuals while sipping on a drink—it’d be the ultimate experience.

Immersive experience that engaged the entire body

The standout feature of VEGA is the immersivity in an extraordinary space.

At the venue, Planetaria TOKYO’s DOME1, the planetarium dome is uniquely capable of projecting visuals that wrap around the entire dome, from the ceiling to the walls, creating a one-of-a-kind environment. Additionally, the specially installed DJ/VJ booth within the dome produces powerful audio that reverberates throughout the spherical space, enhancing the sense of immersion. This innovative experience, where visuals and music enveloped the entire body, redefined the future of event production.

Just when will the next event be held? I can’t wait to find out. At any rate, see you next time!
