That eerie melody from “Red Light, Green Light”—the one that sends shivers down your spine—will echo through the streets of Shibuya this winter…?!
In January next year, the immersive experience “Shibuya Real Squid Game,” recreating the world of Netflix’s global sensation Squid Game, finally makes its Japan debut.

The Global Phenomenon That Shook the World: Squid Game

When you think of Netflix, one title instantly comes to mind: Squid Game.
This worldwide mega-hit survival thriller follows people burdened with massive debt who risk everything for a “once-in-a-lifetime comeback,” competing in deadly games modeled after children’s playground games—lose, and you die.

Since its initial release in 2021, Squid Game ranked No.1 on Netflix’s weekly charts in over 90 countries. Then, in June 2025, the final chapter—Season 3—was released, surpassing 60.1 million views in just three days, setting a new all-time Netflix record.

What drove a Korean series to captivate the world so completely? A deceptively simple premise—a life-or-death game—combined with deeper themes of social inequality, human desire, friendship, and betrayal.
Now, that social phenomenon-level thriller can be experienced in the real world—and that’s exactly what this event offers.

Let’s Play a Crazy Game in Shibuya

A Proven Hit Overseas

“Shibuya Real Squid Game” is the Japanese edition of an immersive entertainment experience that has already seen massive success overseas.
When it first launched in New York in October 2024, lines formed daily, and social media buzzed with comments like “the most thrilling 90 minutes of my life.” Tickets sold out instantly in Madrid and Seongsu-dong, Seoul as well.

And now, in 2025, that wave of excitement finally arrives in Shibuya. The venue is located just steps from Shibuya Station—right in the heart of the city. With a “life-or-death stage” appearing in the middle of Tokyo, how could you not join?

What Can You Experience at the Event?

At “Shibuya Real Squid Game,” an intensely immersive experience awaits—one that feels like stepping directly into the series.
Upon arrival, participants scan their faces via smartphone to complete AI-based player registration. The moment you’re registered, your number appears on the screen, and an unmistakable feeling sets in: there’s no turning back…

The experience lasts approximately 90 minutes. Six familiar trials from the series—such as “Red Light, Green Light,” “Tug of War,” and “Marbles”—are recreated in real life. The last surviving player is crowned the winner. Even if you haven’t seen the show, the experience is designed to be easy to enjoy, with simple rules—but very real tension.

The moment the giant doll moves right in front of you.
The instant defeat strikes when team timing slips during Tug of War.
The quiet psychological battle of the Marbles game.

Each scene feels like a fragment of that story. Lighting, sound, and spatial design are meticulously calculated to stimulate all five senses and fully draw participants into the experience.

There’s also plenty to enjoy before and after the game. The venue features a café area for light meals and drinks, a photo zone with AR frames for commemorative shots, and “Younghee’s Playground,” a merchandise area offering official Netflix goods inspired by the iconic doll (yes, you’ll want them).
Lingering thrills, photo ops, souvenir hunting—the space blurs the line between reality and fiction in just the right way.

Part of the “LIFE LAND SHIBUYA” Project

This event is being held as part of “LIFE LAND SHIBUYA,” a large-scale urban development initiative by Tokyu Land Corporation across the greater Shibuya area.
Under the theme “Making Shibuya a city you can truly experience,” the project continues to blend entertainment, art, and culture—and this Real Squid Game is one such endeavor.

By treating the entire city as a stage, the initiative aims to transform Shibuya into a more multi-dimensional, experiential urban space. That ambition seems deeply embedded in this project.

In Closing

That crazy game that shocked the world is finally coming to the streets of Shibuya.
Survive—or be eliminated.

This event lets you experience that ultimate tension safely—but seriously. The moment you step into the game, your heartbeat will sync with the characters on screen.

Until next time.
