Minami-za is a theater equipped with approximately 1,000 seats and features such as the hanamichi, a distinctive element of kabuki theaters. In addition to kabuki and other theatrical performances, it can also be used for concerts, exhibitions, and a wide range of other purposes. This elegant theater, built in the Momoyama-style kara-hafu architecture and adorned with its historic tower, is registered as a National Tangible Cultural Property and designated as a Historical Architectural Design Property by the city of Kyoto. Throughout the building, you can feel the uniquely Japanese atmosphere characteristic of traditional kabuki theaters.
This three-story venue contains approximately 1,000 seats, allowing guests to fully enjoy the distinctive architecture and décor of a kabuki theater, such as the first-floor sajiki box seats (raised box seating), the hanamichi, and the red paper lanterns. Additionally, the first-floor seating can be removed to create a completely flat space, making it suitable for standing events as well.
