Could a Sphere Arena Be Coming to Japan (Odaiba)?

Last Update | 2026.06.12 TREND

Hello, this is Miyanaga.

Recently, some surprising news caught my attention. It has been reported that the iconic spherical dome venue, the Sphere, is being considered for development in Odaiba, Tokyo. While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, it is hard not to get excited about the possibility. Today, I would like to share what is currently known about this project as of April 17 (the time of writing).

What Is the Sphere?

The Sphere is one of the world’s largest spherical arenas, which opened in Las Vegas, USA, in September 2023. As its name suggests, the venue features a massive immersive screen that surrounds the audience, creating a truly unparalleled visual experience.

The Sphere has transformed entertainment from simply “watching a screen in front of you” to being completely “surrounded by visuals.” It could be said that its arrival marked a new chapter in the entertainment industry. And if a second Sphere were to come to Japan, it would certainly be exciting news.

SBI Holdings Takes the Lead in the Bid

The company that has expressed interest in bringing the Sphere to Japan is SBI Holdings.

At a press conference held on March 31, 2026, Taikomi Kondo, Representative Director and Vice Chairman of SBI Neo Media Holdings, unveiled the strategic vision for the SBI Neo Media ecosystem. As part of that vision, the company introduced the concept of attracting the Sphere as a next-generation entertainment venue where visitors could experience world-class Japanese content in a three-dimensional and immersive environment.

The Fusion of Entertainment and Technology Will Redefine Experiences

If the Sphere is successfully brought to Japan, it could significantly transform the country’s entertainment landscape.

Beyond traditional surround-sound experiences, the shift from simply “watching visuals” to being completely “immersed in visuals” aligns perfectly with the growing demand for experiential entertainment. This trend has been gaining momentum in recent years, making the Sphere an especially noteworthy development.

Japan is already home to an abundance of globally recognized intellectual properties, including anime, games, and other forms of entertainment content. A venue capable of delivering a new level of immersive visual storytelling would undoubtedly accelerate the evolution of the entertainment industry even further.

During the press conference, the vision presented was to complete the project by 2030. It will certainly be exciting to see what future announcements reveal.
